Say it Loud! A Celebration of Black Music in America by Various Artists

This is a historical compilation of music from the early 1900's to present day. Included in this sample CD are historic speeches such as Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech and the Rev. Jesse Jackson at the 1984 Democratic National Convention. Songs on the CD include Ellington and his orchestra playing, "It Don't mean a thing (If it Ain't Got That Swing); Saturday Night Fish Fry by Louis Jordan; I've Got a Woman performed by Ray Charles and Giant Steps performed by John Coltrane. GenXers will enjoy James Brown singing "Say it Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud"; Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" and the theme from "Sanford & Son" performed by Quincy Jones. Nothing has been left out including the Run-D.M.C. recording of "Proud to be Black;" Queen Latifah's "Ladies First;" and "Fantastic Voyage" done by Coolio. This historic collection has something for every generation and features a century of jass, swing, blues, soul, rap and rock & roll.

The entire Rhino collection includes a 6-CD boxed set (110 songs), a deluxe book with a forward by Quincy Jones, plus essays on music and history from noted journalists. It's a "must have" addition to any collection.
