Self-titled by The Mark Tonelli Group

Straight outta the heart of Texas comes Mark Tonelli, a former student of the legendary Kenny Burrell, and of the prestigious Univ. of North Texas. Now an educator himself, Mark Tonelli delivers no-nonsense straight ahead jazz through his 5 featured original compositions with a very Burrell/Farlow inspired sound and feel. The ensemble is tight, the music is intruiging, and Tonelli's tone (no pseudo-pun intended) is pure and reminiscent of the legends while keeping the ideas in the present. 3 1/2 star set, and definitely worth checking out for those of you who enjoy pure hearted and powerful straight-up jazz guitar.
