What Are You Doing New Years Eve 1999.987654321.? by Gay Pearson

Philadelphia pianist, Gay Pearson, opens the millennium with "What Are You Doing New Years Eve 1999.987654321.?", a tune which is a cocktail blending Frank Loesser's classic mixed with John Coltrane's "Countdown".

Her trio is joined by guests John Blake (violin), Trish Johnson (baritone sax), Beth Dzwil (viola) and vocalist Denise Montana. The leader treats us to a most difficult solo effort on Coltrane's "Giant Steps".

This session is smooth and mellow throughout and prompts the listener to sit back with a fine glass of wine. It worked for me! Gay's piano work on "Second Time Around" is stunningly beautiful as is Denise Montana's vocal on "Precious and Playful Baby Blues", one of Gay Pearson's compositions.

Lovers of jazz violin will appreciate "Last Night When We Were Young" featuring John Blake.

Ten tunes and 60 minutes of very pleasant material.
