Band leader composer and saxophonist Tevet Sela has straightforwardly produced some of the most mindful modern jazz in Israel. Indeed, Tevet Sela performs as a soloist/leader and also in various orchestras. He turns up on TV shows, composes music for films and theatre performances and has toured in France and the Netherlands as a featured soloist.
His voice commingles Israeli rhythms, Jewish, Western, Middle Eastern, and North African music. Since he first appeared on the jazz scene his style has been considered anything but peculiar. Tevel Sela can play saxophones and bass and very often pushes his music via many paths.
Coming True doesn’t fall shapely into a lone genre, but warps and cricks through different vibes and approaches. The Tevet Sela Quartet transports a funky demeanor on tracks such as "Following Your Back", "Late Bloomer", "Earth Rhythm" and "Night Creature". His pieces have a regular euphonic balance with stately harmonization in "Coming True, " Naked True", "My Weather", "Peace Club" as well as in the ethno elements of "Existence".
All throughout the eleven tracks, Tevet Sela follows a sense of "let it go". When this magical moment happens, his saxophone will shrill, snarl and weep every note to collide into a turning mass of sounds. Tela Sela injects a high skill onto this release with creativity, spontaneity and passion, offering a very original music which is certainly worth the time.
