Sakura Aural Bliss by Nik Weston Presents

Kriztal Entertainment and Nik Weston, seasoned DJ and music collector, put together this compilation of electronic underground tracks from the "Land of the Rising Sun." This eclectic mix brings together acid jazz, house, ambient, Brazilian and Afrobeat music (among others) which certainly presents a well-rounded and interesting portrait of the Japanese dance club music scene. Better known producers like Yukihiro Fukutomi, UFO (United Future Organization,) Chari Chari and Calm are thrown together with lesser-known names in the industry and the result is a fine blend of moods and sounds - an outstanding musical journey.

Highlights on this disc include the scratchy, hip-hop-laced-with-spotty-vocals groove "Voyage the Sky," UFO’s Latin/Brazilian "Por Do Sol," Calm’s acid-textured "Dubbing for the Nature #2," the hypnotic "Summerjam," by Takuya, "Times 24h by Starlight," by Sunaga T Experience, and Chari Chari’s "Across the Universe" with its blend of keys and hot percussion. Calm’s "Sketch on Banana Paper," features a driving electronic Afrobeat that is sure to speak to the dancer in anyone, and Shiba’s "El Sol" carries through with an even harder driving beat. Some of these songs are mixed and blended so seamlessly it’s hard to pinpoint where one leaves off and the next one starts, but who cares; as long as the beat goes on, the body will keep moving.

This CD is highly recommended as a great introduction to Japan’s blissful underground music scene.
