Pulcinella by Marco Zurzolo Band M.V.M

He’s boisterous, he makes you laugh, he enchants, he’s sly, he’s rude, and in the end he’s naif and a bittersweet loser. Punchinello is the soul of these people, who are ironic about hardship, survive on nothing, and always manage to see the bright side of things. He has represented Naples from the commedia dell’arte to Stravinsky, from puppet theatre to Eduardo’s poetry. I’ve chosen him as well, this time almost transformed by Lello Esposito’s art. He’s a harlequin who travels, who sees other lands, who dreams, desperately; like small children he always has wishes and he looks beyond, because he is as eternal as thought itself, as doubt.

Naples, like Punchinello, continues to be a source of inspiration for me; the piece of street I pass along each day, the corner of a building, the saints, the demons, the voices, the dazzling shadows and the dark lights....

I like Naples, my music’s resonance lies there; with this work I give back to my city the tale it tells to me each day.
