CD Title: Porter Project

Year: 2004

Record Label: Kriztal Records

Style: Acid Jazz

Musicians: Billy Paul Williams

Review:

With the motion picture DeLovely, there has been a definitive resurgence in the interest of the life and music of Cole Porter. Porter was one of the greatest songwriters of the Great American Songbook. It's hard to say if Porter, who was truly an enigma wrapped inside of a riddle that the Great Sphinx himself would use, would have approved of this mix of acid jazz with his music.

This is not typical improvisatory jazz to say the least. This CD is laced with more dub, club, techno, and hip-hop beats provided by Billy Paul Williams. This CD comes to you courtesy of Kriztal Records, who brought you such gems as Vintage Chill. While not as contemporary as Nonesuch Records, or as groovy as Blue Note, what they bring to you is a record company that provides urban, de-stressed, get-your-groove-on, and relax discs. The CDs that Kriztal provides is also terrific for parties or gatherings in which you need a good beat in the background, but nothing too mentally taxing. This collection happens to be to the music of Cole Porter.

Any Cole Porter collection is going to be injected with naughtiness, passion, temptation, and frivolity. That's because Porter put himself into every note of his music. Porter was the Bacchus or Dionysus of his day with many nights of decadent debauchery. So, if you are throwing a very steamy party or just chillin' one-on-one with your sweetheart, this would be the perfect disc.

Tracks: In the Still of the Night, Night and Day, Easy to Love, Love for Sale, Miss Otis Regrets, I Love Paris, How Could We Be Wrong, Gigolo, I've Got You Under My Skin, Begin the Beguine, Why Can't You Behave, Be a Clown, You Do Something to Me, Blow Gabriel Blow, At Long Last Love, In the Still of the Night (reprise)
