Featured Artist: Fabio Mignola Group

CD Title: Flyin’ Away

Year: 2003

Record Label: Trio Eugster Ag

Style: Smooth Jazz

Review:

"Flyin’ Away" CD from guitarist Fabio Mignola offers original compositions from this passionate musician. All of the energy and fire on this release come from Fabio Mignola’s axe. His compositions tend toward upbeat, swinging numbers with a nod toward classic and smooth rhythms, as well as the usual straight ahead rhythms of jazz. Mignola respects the common ground of harmonic definition.

“Chameleon” offers some poignant lines and guitarist Mignola seems to maneuver a diverse style of playing, stealing the spotlight. Overall, “Flyin’ Away” is a fine effort as well as a worthy delayed release documenting Mignola's development as composer and musician.

Born in Locarno, Fabio Mignola studied with Professor Dante Brenna and graduated in 1991 at the Conservatory Donizetti in Bergamo. He also studied with Alberto Ponce, Alexandre Rodrigues and Ralph Towner.  He has been documented on TV programs for many Swiss networks and has shared the stage working with Nella Martinetti, Marco Zappa, Mauro Bonomi, Roby Nogueira and the Franco Brambati Group.

Mignola's guitar voice is smooth and full of talent. All the way from “Morning Fun" up through “Chameleon.”  His music carries a relaxing tone. "Flyin' Away" is a piece of smooth jazz compacted between sounds and emotions. The ballad "Slow Dancin" allows Mignola to prove the mastery of his instrument. He dominates the classical and folk repertoire, incorporating diverse artistic experiences in which in the year 2000, Mignola was awarded with the praise of critics for "Flor de Luna."

"Flyin' Away," released in 2003, approaches softly and deeply the sounds of smooth jazz. Attracted by all the different styles,  Fabio Mignola always seems to surprise us with his musical adventures from his classic/wild guitar.

Tracks: Morning Fun, Acid Dragon, Flyin’ Away, Arabescos, Nice To Be With You, All by Myself, Jokin’, Castillos, Slow Dancin’, One More Song, Chameleon
