Featured Artist: Marc Antoine

CD Title: Modern Times

Year: 2005

Record Label: Rendezvous Entertainment

Style: Latin Jazz / Latin Funk

Review:

These are Modern Times for Marc Antoine. The list is long of great musicians Antoine has played with and all have helped Antoine grow as flamenco, Latin jazz but with a tint of classical guitarist.

Starting off song two with a slight jerky rhythm "Samba Hood" dances the night away. Antoine takes the vocal lead on a song called "La Belle Dame Sans Regrets" originally recorded by Sting. This here is a romantic samba cover. Marc Antoine throughout his career has been known for his acoustic guitar work, but with "Modern Times" he branches out with some electric guitar work.

Adding to the album is European dance music producer and club DJ, David Ferrero. There are South African reflections especially in the track "Umbele" and India flavors in the song "Cantar al Amor" in which features vocal chants that are known sacred.

Marc Antoine gives his own view of his new album for Dave Koz’s Rendezvous Entertainment “I think some people might be caught off guard by this album, but I’m pleased with the way it turned out.” Marc Antoine has made some modern changes and they all reflect the way he is learning not only his craft, but also learning that there is other areas of music to be explored. Modern Times is a prime example of how when one can listen and one can take outside influences like a club DJ in Ferrero and turn his Latin, flamenco driven album into something different and not feel the sting.
