Review: Nestor Torres is at his peak as composer and performer in this remarkable CD
collection. There is so much life in these songs! Every song
sparkles with joy and verve.
This collection is definitely a multi-cultural recording, and it is as Nestor
Torres states on the CD flyer: "I've held nothing back. As a result,
everything that I am as an artist and human being is expressed through the music
in this recording." These songs composed by Nestor Torres are brilliant, a
blending of many jazz motifs, and enchanting in many wonderful ways. There are
thirteen songs in the collection.
The songs, each an intimate listening experience for the jazz audience,
include: "Human Revolution," "Let There Be Light," "Lotus Sutra Of The
Wonderful Law," "Peace With Myself," "David's Grace," "Creole Dreams," "A
Widow's Meditation (Lamentoso)," "Dance Because You Can," "Medicine Man," "House
Call," "St. Peter's Prayer," "Till Forever," and "Rhumboso." The Brazilian
Voices bring a charming vocals background to "Lotus Sutra Of The Wonderful
Law," and Agostino Marangolo appears on drums with "Medicine Man."
An interesting and unique song is "Till Forever." The song is full of
beauty, and permeated with a sense of jazz delivery that is memorable. On
this intricate song appears Nestor Torres performing on flutes, Jose Velasquez
on bass, Johnny Mendoza on violin, Jose Gregorio on percussion, and Silvano
Monasterios on acoustic piano.
Every song in this collection is worthy of playtime on the radio. This
is a collection to savor and enjoy frequently. This is Nestor Torres at
his finest.
Top-notch in every way. Highly recommended. Perfect.
