Review:

It is said that pirate’s fiancées possess such a wild-voice that they are able to face the pirate’s foes. According to a few source legends they are resourceful, powerful, and cunning. Likewise they are known to combine strict discipline with uncommon business acumen. Thus, they are very often most notorious and feared more so than the pirates themselves.  French vocalist Marie-Christine Clément has without a doubt a pirate’s fiancée voice.

Clément improvises jazz, beating strongly her own amplitudes which in turn mesmerizes those who forget about demeanor; those who decided to hear differently to what marketing dictates and even to those who just believe in what jazz spirit is all about … Clement should speak. On "Xtine’ Dream", Clément beats her segments and it’s easy to rock with reverie along the rhythm section as well as with the beautiful sax sonority which is concise and inspired with poetry.

With saxophonist Roby Glod’s credentials, he ought to be a prophet in his own country. This Luxembourger immigrated to a nearby country to become an outstanding improvisational figure. Insistent with himself, Glod does not neglect the pleasure of life -- he’s also known as an enlightened amateur of Jurassien nectar--going up to the core of his performances. Hopefully as his ambrosia, his music will be able to charm us for 50 to 100 years from now. From "X’tine’s Dream" to "Incertitude Mireille", Glod’s alto and soprano are a drizzle of crystalline notes, bunched with massive and coloured cadences and dissonant floods, making his sound “mineral” with a majestic hallmark.

Under Stefan Heidtmann’s fingers, the keyboard shivers and clarifies the silent "Blue Mood"s light. Heidtmann is an immense colourist who’s bright with a harmonic pallet of an unforeseeable cornucopia and a subtle touch of astounding precision. On "Chimères", Heidtmann affirms himself as a sound minstrel, a master of resonances. In every track of La Fiancée du Pirate Peter Schönfeld pizzicato and staccatos are executed with plenty of grace, his notes seems to be draft to be paraphrased openly and loosely. Schönfeld allows transitions between composed passages and improvisation, never easy to achieve.

Sorcerer drummer Klaus Kugel knocks each drum from bristly improvisations while sustaining the flurry which releases his spontaneous play and the capacity of excitation which he brings about on these ten perfect parts of completed music.

La Fiancée du Pirate is a timeless album which is only pure remarkable music.
