Review:

As composer and performer, Andy Narell has furthered the fusion of steel pan work with jazz, and as the years roll by quickly, he continues to add new flavor and charm to his compositions. His jazz compositions reflect a mature, creative, and imaginative composer who utilizes the best of world music and jazz motifs to create music that is unique.

It is safe to say that the selection named Tatoom is an instant classic for steel pan jazz, and the imagination behind this fine work is perfect.  The grassroots movement which took shape in South Africa had a dramatic impact on Andy Narell's  cultural and musical perspective.

There are six selections on this fine CD.  The titles are "Izo's Mood," "Tatoom," the intricate "Baby Steps," "Tabanca," "Blue Mazooka," and "Appreciation."  Each song fully realizes the creative musical genius that is Andy Narell.

In addition to Andy Narell, the selections reflect some of the finest players in contemporary jazz.  Mike Stern on guitar and Luis Conte on congas are among the performers.

If you enjoy steel pan jazz, and like the work of composer Andy Narell, this is a CD you will want to have in your home music library.  It would be a nice gift for a friend, and it would make for a splendid addition in your local public library.  Highly recommended.
