Review:
Inspiration for this new Zeno De Rossi album came from his deep passion for jazz and Jewish music. Drummer De Rossi utilizes Jewish culture to thrill his own sensibility and to pay a tribute to his father. Although there is an authentic presentation of standard songs on this CD, De Rossi invents his own fluctuating synthesis of this music and even some beat percussions in the service of his eyesight.
He is assisted more than ably by his friends, colleagues and members of El Gallo Rojo family; Francesco Bigoni on the tenor, Piero Bitollo Bon on the alto, Danilo Gallo on the bass, I Kyle Gregory on the trumpet, Daniele D’Agaro on clarinet and tenor saxophone, Achille Succci on the clarinet, Enrico Terragnoli on the guitar, Pasquale Mirra on the vibes, Stefano Senni on the bass, Alfonso Santimone on the bass, Alessando “Asso” Stephana on the pedal steel guitar, Nicola Fazzini on the alto sax, Giorgio Pacorig on the piano. They all have inter-mixed these conductive dynamisms with De Rossi's own considerable adeptness on drums; here you have a musical amass that literally burns.
The poetry and the unpretentious use of emotions will sometimes let us know an unearthly, dreamlike attribute to the music, giving it qualities of remembrances, of a thoughtful memory and a sense of tribute on tracks such as, Rumshinsky-Picon’s "I’ll Always Be Yours (Mir Zol Zain Far Dir) " and Porter “My Heart Belongs to Daddy”.
Throughout all of this, Zenno De Rossi and El Gallo Rojo family contrive to alloy a moving variety of Jewish musical influences, creating a great experience for the listener.
