Review:

Saxophonist Brian Patneaude’s latest recording, As We Know It, features his long-standing quartet in which he leads. Brian Patneaude was born in 1974 in Schenectady, New York. Although his parents encouraged his musical interests at a young age, it wasn’t until he heard the music of saxophonists Michael Brecker and David Sanborn that he decided to pursue a career in music. The quartet came about in the year of 2002, and had become one of the popular jazz groups in upstate New York. Their music is an organic blend of modern jazz styles, featuring accessible melodies and harmonic textures that appeal to the casual listener and jazz aficionado alike.

The members of he Brian Patneaude Quartet consists of George Muscatello who is a native of Troy, NY, guitarist. Muscatello has become well known throughout the Capital District for his longstanding weekly jazz series at Savannah’s, the Lionheart Café and QE2. He has performed with a who’s who of area jazz luminaries including saxophonist Nick Brignola. George brings a unique sound and compositional approach to the quartet with musical influences as varied as free jazz, contemporary classical and metal. Danny Whelchel a drummer and has spent the majority of his life in Lafayette, Louisiana. Whelchel has performed with a variety of musicians including Charles Neville, John Mengon, Teri Roiger, Tessa Souter, Evita Cobo, Ray Alexander, Adrian Cohen, and many more. Mike DelPrete is a bassist of Connecticut. DelPrete performed a concert with jazz legend Dave Brubeck, and also performed with musicians throughout the Northeast including Adrian Cohen, John Nazarenko, Mike Schiffer, Leo Russo, and Ed Mann. Also, Dave Payette a pianists who has developed a unique and refined voice, informed by an extensive rooting in classical music and technique, but also influenced by contemporary styles.

This CD contains seven of the most wonderful instrumental pieces that I bet you wouldn’t help but repeatedly listen to. It will fill your ears with delightful melodies that are highly irresistible.
