Review:

It might not seem likely that the mention of the names “Tuck and Patti” would strike a cord of immediate cognition in the European jazz community, but nothing could be further from the truth.  Tuck and Patti, like many other American jazz artists, have gained outstanding accolades and are held in highest esteem in Europe, as jazz continues to flourish in popularity there.

I confess…it was there in Europe that I was introduced to the glorious, musical perfection of guitarist Tuck Andress and vocalist Patti Cathcart—a married duo who have been performing together for the past 29 years.  Where was I all that time?  How could I have missed such outstanding talent for 17 years?  Well, probably because these San Fran Bay residents, Tuck and Patti, have toured so much in Asia and Europe that their performances and music totally escaped me here in the U.S.(understandable as one prominent jazz artist told me if it wasn’t for performing in Europe, he’d have to get a day job!)

Tuck and Patti’s new release I Remember You, released to ITunes and retail/digital outlets in August 2008, is a momentous celebration of 30 years of playing together. Luckily for U.S. fans, it also marked their happy return to perform at the world-famous Monterey Jazz Festival on September 20, and an upcoming North American tour to begin October 3rd.

Tuck’s “soft virtuosity” guitar playing is sheer genius, while Patti exhibits the dynamics of vocal control and intonation.  Their chosen dedication to the American Songbook featuring verdant selections from Ellington, Rodgers & Hart and Jerome Kern is more than just an album of classic jazz standards; it’s a careful study in musical mastery and discipline, a joie de vivre of musical compatibility from a world-class duo.

Highly Recommended
