Above the Clouds is something new and enjoyable, and its approach to jazz is both mellow and intimate. Amina Figarova knows her piano, and her solo work is perfect with its many complex stylings.
The twelve songs in the collection make for enjoyable listening pleasant. The songs include "'A' Dance," "Ernie's song," "Above the Clouds," "Sharp Corners," Bedtime Story," "Nico' Dream," "Summer Rain," "Sailing through the Icy Waters,' "River of Mountains (Muhheakunnuk), "Blue wonder," "Chicago Split," and "Reminiscing."
Among the songs are two which my favorites: "Summer Rain" and "Sailing through the Icy Waters." Each reveals a fine, gifted pianist at the top of her form, her jazz techniques incredibly crafted and well-developed, and her reflective stylings suited to each song. Amina Figarova is a jazz pianist you will be hearing a lot about, and those of you who have her previous CD will also want this new recording for their home CD library.
Excellent solo work, fine production values, and interesting variety would be three ways to describe this outstanding collection of original jazz songs by pianist Amina Figarova. When you listen to her piano work soar through such songs as "Sharp Corners" and "Bedtime Story," you realize you are listening to a new, unique voice in jazz piano. Jazz pianist Amina Figarova is the tops!
