Review: Songwriter/producer Faye Miravite presents a disc of eight inspirational pieces, aided by an international cast of Italian, Filipino and Brazilian musicians. The dynamic duo of vocalist Flora Purim and percussionist Airto Moreira lend their reputable names to a satisfying session of Latin grooves, ballads and bebop.
Miravite's uplifting lyrics of love and human potential are carefully shaped with catchy melodic motifs, at times recalling the sounds of classic American and Brazilian standards. Each of the disc's eight tracks are arranged with a strong musical identity.
The pensive title track has an irresistible romanticism with an underlying dense harmonic structure. Other stand-out tracks include the unrelenting samba numbers "Heart on Fire!" and "Il Giorno in Cui Partirai" and the ballad "The Dream I had of You Last Night," featuring an exceptional solo by bassist Ares Tavolazzi.
Saxophonist Stefano "Coco" Cantini, pianist Francesco Maccianti and guitarist Edgar Avenir provide exceptional soloing throughout. Cantini is especially poignant with his aggressive soprano tone, reminiscent of Wayne Shorter, and lush, free flowing tenor lines. The saxophonist's swinging, angular lines breathe life into the somewhat stiff swing of "One of These Days" and the ballad closer "I Found love."
La Brezza, Miravite's third release, is a heartfelt representation of the composer's musical vision, performed exceptionally by first-rate musicians from three different continents.
