Review: One of the best cds released during 1999, Francesco Crosara's "Colors" is an electrifying and imaginative jazz collection! Francesco Crosara on piano, with special guest Von Freeman on tenor saxophone, Souren Baronian on dumbek and tambourine, David Choy on soprano saxophone, Dean Taba on electric bass, Dave Marr on acoustic bass, Noel Okimoto on drums, Rusty Jones on drums, Claudia Perez on vocals in track 10 make this an invigorating and enjoyable listening experience. "Passion" deserves air time on the jazz radio stations, as do many of these selections! Recording engineer on this well-crafted cd is Joanie Pallatto. Francesco Crosara is a rare and special talent on the piano, and his love of jazz and expressing it to share with listeners is highly evident on this cd.
The selections include: "Dolphin Dance" composed by Hancock, "Colors" composed by Crosara, "Someday My Prince Will Come" composed Churchill & Morley, "I Love You Porgy" and "Bess You Is My Woman" composed by George Gershwin, "Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most" composed by Landesman & Wolf, "Plutonium" composed Crosara, and the following lovely jazz selections composed by Crosara --- "Petite Peach," "Say Goodbye," "Suite Venus" (which is dedicated to Chick Corea), and "Passion" ("Paixao"). "Suite Venus" is excellent, as are all the pieces in this first rate and classy cd. The performers are great, the performances are great, the jazz feel is great......really now, who could ask for anything more than that!! This is a cd for jazz listeners and those who enjoy good music, and it would make a lovely, lovely, delightful Christmas gift under the tree for 1999! A fine creative work by all concerned!
