Musicians: Anton Schwartz (tenor sax), Paul Nagel (piano), John Shifflett (bass), Jason Lewis (drums), Josh Jones (congas)
Review: Classy classic jazz with a contemporary semblance is what Anton Schwartz has put together for your listening enjoyment in his new release, "When Music Calls". Anton has been playing since the age of 14 but decided to put his musical career on hold in order to pursue academics at Harvard University, where he continued to play music, holding the first tenor sax chair in the Harvard Jazz Band after Don Braden and before Joshua Redman. In 1989 he earned a B.A. in Mathematics and Philosophy, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, and went on to Stanford University on a National Science Foundation fellowship to pursue doctoral research in Artificial Intelligence where he also played first tenor sax in the Stanford Jazz Band. After earning his masters degree in 1995 a burning desire for his first true love of music directed him back toward the music industry.
Since then Anton has worked with jazz names such as Larry Goldings, Dmitri Matheny, Kitty Margolis and Mark Levine. Assembling a band Anton began making a distinguished name for himself in the San Francisco Bay Area and with this new release we see him becoming a household name in the near future.
Anton's new release features his thoughtful compositions designed to captivate your musical ear and bring you into the story he is telling. Backed by a group of talented musicians we experience the elegance and toe tappin' tempo of "Rabbit Days", the deep groovin' message of "Where or When", and are slowly waltzed into romance by "Through the Years". Anton plays the tenor sax with confidence and pride for how it was meant to be played. You will find a world of delightment in this new release, check it out!
