Review: Recorded in Chicago by two adventure seeking instrumentalists, the music within this program sort of parallels the duo’s band moniker and album title. On this outing, Aram Shelton uses a sax, trumpet, computer, and clarinet while Jonathan Crawford handles the percussion and synth duties. In essence, the music is tinged with free jazz, abstract expressionism and inauspicious electronics based treatments. At times, it’s not just about what they’re doing, but more like - conveying the power of suggestion. As the computer generated and synth sounds are often performed within similar wavelengths, or so it might seem. However, on the piece titled “When You Say Go, Leave,” the artists launch into a breezy sax and drums motif. Yet, other portions of this set are built upon minimalist like musings via a smattering of percussion instruments and free-form exchanges. It’s an interesting undertaking for sure!
