Review: Please allow me to introduce you to a new lady jazz singer, a woman who has a gift for sharing the feel of a lyric and melody with a listening audience, and a woman whose voice contains the finest elements of sensitive, sensual, and gentleness. Her name is Lisa Baney. In her debut CD collection, she is joined by Paul Potyen at piano, Thomas Williams on bass, and David Rokeach on drums. These musicians are topnotch. Paul Potyen is one of the finest contemporary jazz pianists, and his stylings as a pianist are superb.
Among the songs in this fine collection are Irving Berlin's "How Deep Is The Ocean," "Zingaro," "The Masquerade Is Over," "Consider Me Gone," "Why Don't You Do Right?," "Aparecida," Cole Porter's "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To," "You're The Dangerous Type," "Lazy Afternoon," "B's Blues," and "Mas Alla." Each song showcases the unique, clear voice of Lisa Baney.
Baney has that special kind of jazz voice that reflects emotional insight and sensitivity, a voice that shares the intimate feeling of the song in such a way which makes each performance memorable. An example of how well she gets into the lyric of a song and its music is her vocal version of "How Deep Is The Ocean," among others.
If you are looking for a new lady jazz singer with verve, class, and a sense of adventure, Lisa Baney is the perfect cup of coffee for any time of night or day. She is the perfect singer for "B's Blues."
LISA BANEY is a fine debute CD collection. Lisa Baney's renditions of "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" and "Lazy Afternoon" showcase her wide range of singing talents, and are sure to please any audience anywhere! Highly recommended.
