CD Title: Flute On The Edge
Year: 2005
Record Label: Steig Music
Style: Various Jazz Styles
Review: Jeremy Steig's new CD, Flute On The Edge, is yet another example of the jazz flute master's fine discography. Here you will find examples of his past and newer playing.
Guitarist, Vic Juris' Moonscape is a wonderfully delicate and mysterious platform for Steig's playing. Vic holds his own as well on the CD.
This is the first time I've heard Steig play latin jazz, and we are in for a treat. His interpretation of Bonfa's Samba de Orfeo adds flute-based polyrythms to the uptempo music. Wonderful!
Steig may shine the brightest on the classic, You Don't Know What Love Is. Here, he sweezes out luscious notes as only he can.
Cameron Brown (bass) and Anthony Pinciotti (drums) support the music very well.
This is a must CD for jazz flute lovers who want to hear the very best available.
Tracks: Mr. Go, Rancho Swampo, You're My Thrill, Felonious Funk Moonscape, Samba de Orfeo, People Dust, You Don't Know What Love Is, Elliott's Dilemma
