Tony and Peabody Award-winning performance poet Bruce George steps up to the mic during his residency at Berklee on December 8. NEA Jazz Master Dave Brubeck, designated a "Living Legend" by the Library of Congress, will be presented with an Honorary Doctorate from Berklee College of Music at the 52nd Monterey Jazz Festival, held on September 18 - 20, 2009. Continuing Berklee's commitment of giving back to the birthplace of jazz, the college's Gracenotes Volunteer Committee is sponsoring its third annual trip to New Orleans. This year, the committee awarded sponsorships to four staff members and four faculty members. The group will travel to Louisiana with two Gracenotes administrators June 22 28 to help build the New Orleans Musicians' Village, an ongoing Habitat for Humanity project to create new and affordable homes in the city's Upper Ninth War
Berklee's fifth Kendall Square Concert Series takes place every Thursday throughout the summer-and it's free for lunchtime music lovers. Performers include Berklee students and alumni playing original jazz, Latin, hip-hop, rock, folk, funk, and reggae. Concerts takes place in the outdoor plaza at 300 Athenaeum Street, Kendall Square, Cambridge, on Thursdays, noon to 1:30 p.m., June 4 through September 10.
