On Monday the 25th of November, 2002 from 9pm-12 midnight, award-winning jazz vocalist Eleonor England and Indonesia's jazz pianist Eddy Sambuaga will give a concert "Pre-Release" of blues-informed jazz to be held at the San Francisco's Elbo Room as a fundraiser for their upcoming cd. Their shows have been described as "half jazz, half stand-up comedy". Bassist Steve Fowler is making his debut with the group. Mps are available at http://www.eleonorengland.com/mp3s.html.
Admission is a sliding scale suggested donation of $5-15 but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. The Elbo Room is located at 647 Valencia between 17th and 18th Streets in the Mission District. Contact Elbo room at 415/522.7788 or visit www.EleonorEngland.com or www.Elbo.com for more information on the event. The press contact is Eleonor England 415/740.4475.
All the musicians are formally trained and bring a high level of musicanship to the sound. Although jazz pianist Eddy Sambuaga and ex-classical vocalist Eleonor England have been playing blues-informed jazz together for only about 8 months, they have garnered positive reviews by radio and industry alike. Their music takes jazz standards infused with a blues aesthetic and ads former humor writer Eleonor England's "improved lyrics" for a performance that marries a fine musical treatment with an element of hilarity.
