Jazz Review Barbados Jazz Festival Blog - Jan 13, 2010

Some may think that rum is the best product from the island of Barbados. However, after listening to the local music on the second night of the Barbados Jazz Festival, this reporter is convinced that music should be favored export from the lovely island.

On Tuesday, January 12, 2009, hungry and enthusiastic music fans gathered at Heritage Park/The Rum Factory in St. Philip to hear the local music offerings of vocalists Toni Norville and Shane Forrester. The caliber of the performances were world class with special appearances by additional well-respected Barbados talent at the close of the Norville set.

Additionally, the musical selection of the entire evening was phenomenal and well-rounded. The producer of the festival, Mr. Gilbert Rowe, did well in pairing these two headliners together. Forrester's style was more in the pop genre, while Norville covered neo-soul to Gospel. The result was a night of pure energy and joy.

The festival continues throughout the week. Scheduled appearances to include Smokey Robinson, Lalah Hathaway, Warren Hill, Baby Face, Tizer (featuring Karen Briggs, Chieli Minucci and Lao Tizer) and more.
