Etienne Charles and Joe Lovano kicked off the Barbados Jazz Festival last night at the Sunbury Plantation House in St. Philip. Although traveling prohibited the Jazz Review from being in attendance, we will be happily reporting all festivities to you through January 17, 2009 at the festival from our lovely temporary headquarters at The Savannah Hotel in Bridgetown.
"Truly a complementary blend of the traditional and the modern, the Savannah is the most prestigious of the Gems. From here, a world apart, one is just ten minutes away from down town Bridgetown and twenty-fine minutes from the International Airport. Almost two hundred years old, its original main building is nicely complimented by the ultra modern architecture and tropical foliage of its newly built extension. Together, they comprise ninety-eight of the most luxurious rooms on the South coast," according to www.gemsbarbados.com.
Tonight's concert at the festival stars Toni Norville and Shane Forrester at Heritage Park/The Rum Factor in St. Philip. Tickets are $25US/$50BS. We will bring you a mini concert review tomorrow and pictures.
