RENOWNED MUSIC DIRECTOR RAY CHEW HIT'S A HIGH NOTE WITH NBC SHOW THE SINGING BEE SCORING HIGHEST RATINGS OF ANY SUMMER SERIES THIS YEAR
HOLLYWOOD, CA -- Renowned music director / producer Ray Chew is enjoying major success in his role on NBC's TV show "The Singing Bee", which debuted on a high note by scoring the highest ratings of any summer series telecast on any network so far this year.
The Singing Bee debut is the highest-rated new summer series premiere on any network in five years among adults 18-49. In overall viewers, it is the most-watched new summer series premiere in more than two years, since the debut of Dancing With The Stars.
Chew, along with host Joey Fatone, is heavily involved with the on camera aspects of the show. He conducts the live band as they play clues which contestants must sing responses to.
The Singing Bee airs Tuesdays at 9:30pm on NBC, immediately following America's Got Talent.
The always busy Ray Chew was recently hard at work on the BET Awards (aired June 26) where he worked hand in hand with BET's programming department in creating musical "moments" as he has done in the past. This year, he worked closely with performers including Jennifer Hudson and Jennifer Holiday, orchestrating a show-stopping performance where they shared a stage for the first time. Chew will continue his relationship with BET as music director of a new exciting music series that will be announced soon.
Donald Trump recently said "You're Hired" to Chew by putting him in charge of all music for his pageant properties: Miss USA, Miss Universe and Miss Teen USA.
He also just completed the music for the film version of the popular MTV show My Super Sweet 16. That project began airing on MTV July 8 and was released on DVD July 10.
Chew has worked with pop superstar Rihanna, since she first stepped into the music scene. As musical director, he helped put together all live music and staging elements for both of her releases. After a successful sophomore album launch with Rihanna, he is once again working with Grammy award winning singer, Alicia Keys on her upcoming album and tour.
Finally, he is gearing up for his 16th season as Music Director of NBC's long running Showtime At The Apollo.
Ray Chew was a child prodigy who began composing music on a piano at age 5. He went on to attend NY's School of The Performing Arts (the school featured in the '80s TV series "Fame") and later Jullliard. He got his start in television playing the piano/keyboards in the Saturday Night Live band during the Eddie Murphy years.
