Lund Wins Thelonious Monk International Jazz Guitar Competition

Jazz guitarist Lage Lund, a Norwegian native, lives in NY and has just won first place, a $20,000 award at the 2005 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Guitar Competition, hosted by Herbie Hancock, Thelonious Monk, Jr. (Chairman of the Board of the Thelonious Monk Institute) and Billy Dee Williams at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC on September 19th. The competition shines a spotlight on the jazz leaders of tomorrow. It has helped to launch the careers of such renown artists as vocalists Jane Monheit and Tierney Sutton, saxophonist Joshua Redman, and pianists Marcus Roberts and Jacky Terrason. Competitors were drawn from all over the world and across the US and were judged by a distinguished panel of jazz artists including! Bill Frisell, Stanley Jordan, Earl Klugh, Russell Malone, Pat Martino and John Pizzarelli. All competitors were 30 or under and had not signed with a label.
