A new workshop and band has been formed in West Sussex. Enthusiasts from Chichester
College jazz courses have recruited about 9 musicians to play regularly on a Friday
night at Bosham on the edge of the beautiful Chichester Harbour. "This has got to
be the most beautiful location of any jazz workshop in the world" reckons flute
player Angela Sims, one of the organisers. "So if we are not playing well, at least
we can look at the view"
Out of the workshop members a band has been formed which has already played half a
dozen local gigs. Steve Collins, the bass player, says the band plays a mixture of
standards, jazz classics, latin jazz and blues. The fee for regular workshop
players is £2 and a bit more for evenings when specialised tutors come in.
The third originating member of the workshop, John Winkler, has put together an
extensive 40 page website to capture the interests of all jazz followers from
listeners to players to professionals which can be seen at
www.jazzenthusiasts.com. "Please look at it," he asks, "because then we can go up
the search engines lists. There should be something for everyone there."
Future plans for the workshop include splitting the evening into two sessions, one
for beginners and one for experienced players. The group has already run one
introductory jazz course and plans more for the Autumn.
