The concert which takes place Friday, July 30th at 9:30 pm, will allow Coco to share with her fellow students and teachers at HD Woodson what she has learned and how she has grown as a performer. Coco was crowned Miss Woodson and it changed her life forever. Although she was involved in many musical theater performances as well as sung in the concert choir, it was winning an amateur singing contest at Howard University in 1988 that lead her straight to the Apollo Theater in New York City where she performed on It's Showtime at the Apollo. Harlem turned out to be the place where she discovered jazz and started to swing. She added Birdland and Londels Superclub to her list of jazz joints where she was able to make a big impression on high society in Manhattan. She spent 5 years singing with an orchestra to New York's rich and famous crowd and was named by her fans Coco because her voice is smooth like chocolate.
