Kit McClure Band Celebrates the Music of The International Sweethearts of Rhythm

The Kit McClure All Women Band will perform at the George Seuffert Bandshell in Forest Park on Thursday June 26, 2003 from 7:30 to 9:00 PM, in celebration of the music of The International Sweethearts of Rhythm. The Kit McClure All Women Band will present original arrangements as played by the International Sweethearts of Rhythm as well as reinterpretations by our own women musicians and arrangers. The Sweethearts Program is in support of the Kit McClure Band's upcoming 2003 CD releases: The Sweethearts Project and The Sweethearts Revisited.

The International Sweethearts of Rhythm were one of the most popular, original, and powerful all women big bands of the 1940s. They, like many female musicians of that and more recent eras, have not achieved the recognition they deserved. This performance is designed to expose a wide audience to the rich heritage of women's contributions to jazz, swing, and American popular music.

Drawing on a group of over 60 professional female musicians, the Kit McClure All Women Band has been touring and recording since the mid-1980s and performed to packed audiences in the US, Canada, Europe, and Japan as headlining act. In addition, the Band has collaborated with such musical giants as Cab Calloway and Robert Palmer, to name but a few. The Band's two CDs, Some Like It Hot and Burning released on Redhot Records, receive widespread critical acclaim and continue to sell well and receive substantial airplay.

This is a performance of extraordinary music by extraordinary women jazz musicians. Admission to the concert will be free of charge. For more information on the concert please call The Forest Park Trust, Inc. at (718) 235-4100.
