NATIONAL JAZZ AWARD NOMINEES DENZAL SINCLAIRE AND KARIN PLATO TO SHARE THE STAGE, SPRING 2003
Vocalists to perform concert of duets at the elegant Vancouver East Cultural Centre
Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - On Thursday April 10th 2003, Canadian jazz vocalists Denzal Sinclaire and Karin Plato will be featured in an intimate concert of ballads, bossa novas and swing standards at The Vancouver East Cultural Centre. The critically acclaimed Bill Coon Ensemble will accompany these two superb vocalists as they perform a program of duets inspired by Plato's soon to be released recording "The State of Bliss". The recording session was indeed blissful for them and they decided to develop a repertoire of songs to share in concert. For the April date they will perform duets that include songs written by Irving Berlin, George and Ira Gershwin and other great American songwriters. Both Sinclaire and Plato recently shared a nomination for Canadian Jazz Vocalist Of The Year at the 2003 edition of the National Jazz Awards in Toronto.
Over the past decade Denzal Sinclaire has earned his reputation as one of Canada’s most popular male jazz vocalists. Based in Vancouver, he has graced the stages of numerous high-profile international jazz festivals in North America and Europe, performed with Symphony Orchestras, and starred in his own one hour television special for BRAVO! Sinclaire was also a feature vocalist for the prominent Count Basie Orchestra, and recently co-produced a musical tribute to the great Nat King Cole. His albums include: I Waited for You, Mona Lisa and I Found Love that featured jazz quintet with strings. Gregory Hutchinson (drums), Reuben Rogers (bass) and Bruno Hubert (piano) accompany Denzal on his latest recording, which will be released in Canada by the Universal/Verve Music Group in May ’03.
Since 1995 Karin Plato has been making a name for herself as a jazz vocalist. She has released four albums of jazz standards and originals and continues to impress new fans with her straightforward, no frills approach to singing. In 2000 she was nominated for a Juno award for her recording There’s Beauty in the Rain. In 2001 she toured across Canada with guitarist Bill Coon in support of her jazz duets CD Blue Again. She has performed in cities across Canada and has appeared in several prominent jazz festivals.
