New label Zone 7 brings global pop and R&B to Britain
CANDID Records announces the launch of new R&B/pop imprint ZONE 7, a bold move into new areas of music outside its position as the UK's most dynamic jazz company. The 40 year old label, whose catalogue includes legendary albums from jazz greats such as CHARLES MINGUS, MAX ROACH
and ABBEY LINCOLN
, has enjoyed much recent success with US singer STACEY KENT
and instrumentalists JIM TOMLINSON
and DAVE O’HIGGINS
, together with rising star CLARE TEAL
'Jazz is still an ever developing business for us' says CANDID CEO ALAN BATES 'and we are continuing to search for and develop new artists with mainstream potential such as Robbie Williams-like singer/pianist Jamie Cullum. ZONE 7 broadens our scope and creates new opportunities for us in the mainstream of the music industry.'
First signing to the label ALEX WILSON
, winner of BBC's Rising Star Award, who is about to release his stunning album 'R&B Latino', which Nigel Williamson calls ‘A magnificent slice of prime quality R&B LATINO which fuses the two most exciting dance beats in contemporary music into a unique and dynamic new sound’. The album is preceded by the radio friendly single ‘If You’re Out There’, which features soul and dance diva Jocelyn Brown and is already receiving mainstream radio play. Also set for a June 5th release is vocalist LADINE
from Manila, one of the Phillipines biggest popstars. Her international profile was boosted massively when she won the 2001 VOICE OF ASIA song contest (similar to Eurovision) and her song 'How Can I Make You Love Me' was written by Australian pop meisters Carl Dimataga & Miguel Ayesa. Also joining ZONE 7 is sultry Russian vocalist NELLI REES
who is currently in the studio remixing tracks from her ‘trip-bop’ album 'Jazz Noir'.
