Lenora Zenzalai Helm announces release of new CD Precipice

New York City, March 15, 2002, Baoule Music proudly announces a Lenora Zenzalai Helm new CD recording, Precipice. Helm will celebrate the CD release with a performance on Sunday, April 7th, 7:30 pm at Joe's Pub at the Public Theatre, 425 Lafayette Street, NYC. Helm will also appear at the Cape May Jazz Festival, Cape May, NJ in Carney's Main Room on Saturday, April 20th from 9 :00 p.m - 1:00 a.m. Helm will perform at both events with pianist Brandon McCune, bassist Tassilli Bond, drummer Nasheet Waits and trumpeter Duane Eubanks.

Recently noted by Dr. Billy Taylor as a .."highly imaginative, adventurous musician who .uses all of her exceptional gifts to push the envelope .", Helm brings her vocal, arranging, lyric writing and composition talents to this recording. Her third release, Precipice, features a stellar trio of notables; Stanley Cowell, piano; Tarus Mateen, bass; and Nasheet Waits, drums; and guest trumpeter, Duane Eubanks. The release has twelve selections: three of Helm's original compositions, two lyric collaborations with composer/pianist Andrew Hill and saxophonist Branford Marsalis, and Helm's arrangements of jazz standards. Guest arranger/pianists Brandon McCune and Terence Conley round out the recording's samplings.

Helm is a former U.S. Jazz ambassador (1999) and with over 300 individual educational residencies and performances in the last twelve months, is a much sought after teaching artist and jazz educator. She is a vocal jazz instructor at Nassau BOCES Cultural Arts performing arts high school in Syosset, Long Island; teaches recorder and classical music appreciation for Carnegie Hall's LinkUP! program with fourth and fifth graders in NYC public schools; and provides educational performances on jazz history and residencies on jazz history and songwriting and composition to grades K-12 for Young Audiences/New York. One project of particular interest is a songwriting residency with fourth, fifth and sixth graders in the Belle Harbor School in Rockaway Queens, NY for Young Audiences, sponsored by The New York Times. You may remember Belle Harbor as the neighborhood where the American Airlines plane crashed into several homes shortly after 9/11. A collaborative residency with Studio in A School's visual artist, Connie Fenicchia, Helm is working with the students to foster positive self-expression and creativity through music.
