This year’s Presidents’ Day Weekend Newport Beach Jazz Party promises to be better than ever with two of the most influential musicians ever being honored with special concerts Saturday and Sunday nights.

To celebrate the golden anniversary of the Monterey Jazz Festival, the event’s 50th Anniversary Band begins a nationwide tour this month on the West Coast with appearances in Southern California at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, Jan. 17, and UCLA ‘s Royce Hall, Jan. 18.

This is the best of times for jazz musician Ken Peplowski, renowned clarinet and tenor sax player. So good in fact, it was difficult for him to find time to talk by phone in June.
