April 4, 1968 is a tragic day in our countrys history. It marks the day that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis TN. Bassist/composer Marcus Shelby whose family is from Memphis TN pays tribute to Dr. King on April 4 with 4 new videos featuring music from Shelby's widely acclaimed CD "Soul of the Movement: Meditations on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr." This is a very personal project for Shelby who had several family members in the "I Am A Man" march and several who were arrested in the struggles. Tarek Yamani Wins 2010 Composition Competition Congratulations to Tarek Yamani, winner of the 2010 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Composers Competition, sponsored by BMI. Yamani’s winning composition is titled “Sama’i Yamani.” Tarek Yamani was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. He studied classical piano as a child and then turned his attention to guitar and heavy metal until he discovered jazz. Savile Studios, under the management of Savile and Chrome Ltd opened its doors in August 2010 and have already been accredited as the UK’s prime spot for Jazz.
