Jason Goldman, saxophonist and noted bandleader has announced the formation of the record label JMGJazz. This Los Angeles based independent record label was established to capture the creative and innovative "young lions" of modern music. While the emphasis is on jazz, the label will focus on the sounds of emerging artists in all styles of music.
"Our goal is to provide a place where musicians will have an opportunity to explore their creativity to their fullest potential. Unlike major labels, we will be able to focus on nurturing new artists." The JMGJazz label’s debut release, The Jason Goldman Nonet - The Definitive Standard, features nine of today’s rising stars in the jazz world representing both east and west coast based musicians.
The Jason Goldman Nonet features: Goldman on Alto/Soprano Sax, Mark Small and Walter Smith on Tenor Sax, Michael Rodriguez and Justin Ray on Trumpet, NickVagenas on Trombone, Danny Grissett on Piano, Josh Ginsburg on Bass, and Robert Perkins on Drums. These musicians have performed with some of today’s top jazz icons including Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Clark Terry, Harry Connick Jr., Eric Reed, and Terence Blanchard to name a few.
Jazz master Gary Burton stated, "Here's a refreshing sound! Jason Goldman's nine-piece acoustic jazz band featuring crisp, clever arrangements and some really great playing. These are some of the best young jazz players around today, as you can tell from the individual solos. And, yet this group is very well-rehearsed, playing intricate ensemble passages with consummate ease. A pleasure from start to finish."
