From July 10-21 2003, the Eric Mintel Quartet will cross the pond as they tour the United Kingdom for the first time. Pianist and composer, Eric Mintel will be joined by Andrew Neu on sax, Kenny Kellem on bass and Jeremy Berberian on drums. The quartet will perform in concert halls, cultural centers, jazz festivals and the many jazz clubs England has to offer. This tour will coincide with the promotion of a new CD(yet to be titled)by Eric which features new original compositions and standards. "In order to keep jazz alive, the jazz musician has to travel and introduce as many people as possible to this great music. Europe has always been a heaven for the jazz musician because the European audiences really appreciate the jazz musician and listens intently to his or her music. I'm really excited about this tour, its been alot of work but you've got to book ahead, I'm working sometimes a year or more in advance booking as many jazz concerts as possible", said Mintel from his home in Morrisville, PA.
A lot of hard work has been paying off in a big way. Eric's recent CD Hopscotch is getting air play on many jazz radio stations throughout the country and in Philadelphia on WRTI 90.1 FM Hopscotch made it to #5 on the Hot 11 Countdown. The CD has gotten positive reaction by the listening public.
The quartet also tours throughout the U.S. in the ensuing months with a tour of the South in March of 2003, a tour of California in the fall of 2003 and many other venues on each coast. "I'm a new father now, my wife and I have a 5 month old baby girl. We are truly blessed. My wife Darby is also an artist and knows what needs to be done in order to make a living playing jazz. They are both my greatest motivators. And playing jazz with Andrew, Kenny and Jeremy has been great. We've worked as a solid unit for three years and have really been able to develop. I'm looking forward to sharing our music on this European tour and somewhere along the trail we may stop in your town to share our music with you. I look forward to that.
Eric Mintel lives in the Philadelphia area with his wife Darby and daughter Tess. Bookings can be made by calling 215-295-0320.
