An exciting new partnership! Singer Jacqui Dankworth
and pianist David Gordon
have formed a new duo, performing contemporary versions of standards and distinctive originals.
David is one of the most individual pianists on the UK jazz scene, playing with his own trio
and in bands with Christian Garrick
, Theo Travis and Pete Oxley among others. His brilliant contemporary style incorporates influences as diverse as Bill Evans, John Adams and Scriabin. He leads the unique "early music meets jazz" group Respectable Groove
Daughter of Cleo Laine and John Dankworth, Jacqui
worked as an actress, before concentrating on a singing career. She performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company touring the UK and in the West End in the Ellington review, "Sophisticated Ladies", Sondheim's "Into the Woods" and Christopher Hampton's "Les Liaisons Dangereuses". Forming the Alec and Jacqui Dankworth Quintet with her brother, she toured the Far East. 1994 saw her album "First Cry" featured on Jazz FM topping the Virgin Jazz Chart. Jacqui's latest group "Field of Blue" received a spellbound reception at Ronnie Scott's in May 1995 with a special appearance on BBC Radio 3.
