Report from JVC Newport Jazz Festival
Listen to what James Gillis of the Newport Daily News said in his August 13, 2001 review of the granddaddy of all jazz festivals. "the most memorable act for this writer was the New Orleans-based Los Hombres Calientes...This group tore it up on the second stage...This was arguably the hottest show on any stage." Other artists he was comparing included Diana Krall, Ray Charles, Chuck Mangione, Natalie Cole, Roy Hargrove, Dave Brubeck,Wayne Shorter, Jerry Gonzales and the Fort Apache Band, Jon Faddis and Kurt Elling.
