The initial 2003 concert of the Magic Triangle Concert Series took place on February 27, 2003, at the Helen Hills Chapel at Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts. And an appropriate site it was for a star-studded performance by Alan Silva’s Celestrial Communication Orchestra in an American continuation of its rebirth in Switzerland in 2001.
The orchestra was packed into the fairly large platform area of the choir space of the chapel. The orchestra was arranged symmetrically with the rhythm section at the back, two drummers & sets on the far right and left, enclosing the string bass player, the guitarist, and the vocalist; on the right placed closer and toward the audience were the brass players, opposite and facing them, on the left, were the saxophone and reed players; and in the center front on floor level, with his back to the audience, but undeniably distinguishable, sitting at his keyboard and synth mixer was Alan Silva.
Silva conducted the musical assembly from the keyboard. As Silva played he led the rest, the drone of the chords from the keys merged with the tones emanating from the orchestral body. Very few times within two and one half hours of music did Silva stand.
