This 1957 Prestige date, finds guitarist Kenny Burrell with Donald Byrd, Frank Foster, Tommy Flanagan, Doug Watkins, and Arthur Taylor in a excellent jam session setting. The title cut is a cool, laidback 18 minute blues that features great solos by Burrell, Byrd, Foster, Flanagan, and Watkins. Those familiar with the take Kenny did w/ Jimmy Smith, Art Blakey, and Lou Donaldson done a month later, will notice that there are stop-time breaks, funkier, longer solos, and no double timing between the 2nd and 3rd choruses, like in the Smith version. For the CD, an additional track has been added. Also notable is the Blue Note-esque cover designed by Reid Miles. All Day Long is right up there with Kenny's other great records, Blue Lights, recorded a year later for Blue Note, and Midnight Blue, also done for Blue Note in 1963.
