Sticks & Stones by Ray Obiedo

Ray Obiedo plays electric and acoustic guitars, and keyboards. His music has a strong latin influence, full of percussion. The Escovedo clan is (Shelia E. and Peter Michael) on board, along with Andy Narell on steel pan. The Sticks and Stones CD is very mellow. To give you feel for it, in the summer I like to listen to this CD outside in the backyard, late at night under the stars. It's mellow but has enough groove to keep you from falling off to sleep. The CD Zulaya is for riding in your car with the sun roof open (or the top down). This one gets your head bobbin' up and down! The percussion on this CD is really smooth. If you're into George Duke or Pete Escovedo, you've probably heard Ray Obiedo playing guitar on some of their work. This is my first stab at posting a review. As I look over what I've written, I can't tell if I given you a real flavor for this artist. If you like latin jazz, give Ray a try. Summer is just around the corner!
