The Jazz Review is always on the look-out for young new talent to inform its members about. Well we have found one of the best new female jazz vocalists around. We found Lori on the Internet and thought we would check out her CD. Lori is featured with music performed by the Frank Cunimondo Trio and the John Wilson Big Band on Mondo Records. Lori is definitely a female vocalist that is on her way to making a name for herself amongst the greats like Dianne Reeves, Abbey Lincoln and Betty Carter.
Tony Mowod of WDUQ Radio says it best, when he said, "Lori Russo has a voice and a soul brought together to jazz, and applied in a way that gives jazz vocals a fresh dimension." Lori makes your emotions come alive in each song, by singing with real feeling and meaning unlike many commercial singers today. Lori has a very strong and rangeful singing style that flows ever so soothingly right into your heart.
This album has it all from the lively and seductive song, "Love for Sale" to a great rendition of an old classic, "You don't know what love is." Before Lori, the last time I heard someone do justice to this song, it was George Benson. Lori also does and great remake to "Good Morning Heartache" where she adds her own original twist to make this song great all over again. I'm sure your going to love it. We do!
