Jazzfans have come to expect nothing but the best from Kendra Shank and they won't be disappointed with her newest CD. Kendra applies her writing talents with vibraphonist Joe Locke to produce the title song, "Wish". They even wrote a verse! Wonderful! Nobody does that anymore. Accompanied by Hans Teuber-saxes & flute, Frank Kimbrough - piano, Jeff Johnson - bass, Victor Lewis - drums, Kendra winds her twisting course through ballads, up-tempo pieces and even the traditional "Black Is The Color Of My True Love's Hair".
Other tunes "Should've Been" and "Angel Face" written by Kendra's idol, Abbey Lincoln. My favorite is the obscure Leo Robin/Jule Styne composition "You Say You Care". Kendra and the group kick it along at a great rate with wonderful feeling. My overall impression? I've played it three times today. 'Nuff said.
