Better Days by Everette Harp

Everette Harp, sax player extraordinaire, musician who also performed on the Arsenio Hall Show years ago, truly outdid himself on this CD.

I asked Everette which one of his CD's he recommended based on my enjoyment of his first two CD's. He told me "Better Days."

Well, it took me almost a year before I finally ordered the CD from the BMG Jazz Club and I got my copy last week. It is awesome!! What else can I say?

Here's my critique of the music on "Better Days." I hope you like it!! This is a must for your collection.

The first song "Modern Religion" features Everette on alto sax and has his funky, hardhitting style that makes you get up and dance! It is baaaadddd!!

The second song "Better Days" is a sweet piece of music with Wayman Tisdale playing bass. He sounds just like Stanley Clarke. Everette and Wayman play the melody note for note together and each have pretty solos and improv.

The third song "I Just Can't Stop Thinking About You" is for his daughter, I think. Everette plays this thing called the EWI, a neat sounding instrument that doesn't sound like a sax. I like it! Two great guitar players are on this tune - Paul Jackson, Jr. and Doc Powell. One of my favorite keyboard players plays a beautiful piano solo on this - Brian Simpson. I love that man!! There are also haunting background vocals sung by Valerie Pinkston, Kevin Wyatt, Lynne Fiddmont Lindsey and Everette Harp, himself.

Next, "We Will Answer" a jazzy gospel tune featuring Everette on soprano sax and keyboards. Marc Antoine plays guitar on this one. Really pretty guitar licks. Marc is very talented. Check out his CD's too! The Yellow Jackets Jimmy Haslip plays bass on this too! Oh, I forgot......George Duke plays piano and Fender Rhodes on this one. You know the creative genius of that man!! The lead vocals on this song sung by Wayne Holmes touch your heart with his lyrics along with the words "We Will Answer." I think Everette's wife sings on this one too! God bless Jeri!

I could go on and on. The music is so beautiful, touching and dreamy!!!

I'm listening to "For You Always" and it brings tears to my eyes. Everette plays soprano sax on this with Kevin Ricard on percussion and background vocals sung by Cassie. I don't know who she is, but I like her voice and sound.

Bobby Lyle, Marcus Miller, Rick Braun and Michael White are some of the other musicians on this CD, just to name a few.

I love it!!! I've listened to this CD over and over and like it more and more each time I listen to it. I'm a romantic and it appeals to that side of me too!

It has funk, sweetness, romance, love, haunting and beautiful melodies, gospel and.....it makes you smile, get teary-eyed, sit and just listen and.....dance!

Everette dedicated "Better Days" to the memory of George Howard, Zachary Breaux and Chelsea, his best friend.

If you are married or in love, this CD is perfect for a romantic passionate evening with your sweetheart with a candlelight dinner, dancing at home, bottle of champagne and caviar, walk on the beach, sitting in the hot tub and making love!

God bless you Everette, my precious and kind brother. God bless "Better Days!" I love you and your family. I hope you continue to write and create more music like this! I also hope you can get Jonathan Butler to sing on one of your CD's too. He's great!!

Love and blessings to all the musicians who played on this CD. I love you guys!! Ev, please send my love and a hug to Brian Simpson. He's still great!!!
