Oscar Peterson plays Duke Ellington by Oscar Peterson

This really isn't another Duke Ellington tribute release- and there are a glut of those these days, It's just a collection of previously issued Peterson performances of Ellington songs recorded between 67' and 86'. The songs, including a couple of rare gems such as "Lady of the Lavender Mist" and the flag-wavers, are bought to new levels by Peterson, who is at his creative apex. His speed-of-light rendition of "Caravan" is almost unthinkable, and the rare performance of Peterson and the Duke Ellington Orchestra together on "Take The A Train" is memorable and historic.
