Born To Play by Ruby Braff

When cornet is mentioned, one of the first names that come to mind and spoken is jazz cornet legend, Ruby Braff. He consistently creates excellent music, and his performances are flawless and graceful.

In "Born To Play," Ruby Braff takes the listener on a magical mystery tour of 8 selections. Kenny Davern joins Braff and peforms with great imagination on his clarinet, Howard Alden is on guitar, Bucky Pizzarelli on guitar, Jon Wheatley on guitar, Michael Moore on bass, Marshall Woods on bass, and Jim Gwin on drums.

This excellent group of musicians perform "Avalon," followed by an original composition written by Ruby Braff titled "The Doodle King," a medley featuring "Smile" and "La Violettera," "Think," "Jive at Five," a delightful 9:11 minute version of "I Want a Litle Girl" (yes! they really did spell it,'Litle'!), "I'm Shooting High," and "Born to Lose."

For jazz fans of Ruby Braff, this is a collector's item! For those who have not heard a lot of Ruby Braff, this CD, "Born to Play," is an excellent introduction to his greatness as a performer.
