Klezmer Festival 1998: Live at the Knitting Factory by Michael Dorf and Seth Rosner

Michael Dorf and Seth Rosner produced this collection, recording the groups between December 22 through 29, 1998. It is a collection that is best described by some of the titles and groups performing those selections: "Transcendence" performed by Hasidic New Wave; "Hebe-Bop" by Hasidic New Wave; "Aimless Path" by Naftuli's Dream; "Friend of Kafka" by Naftuli's Dream; "El Encalador" by Klezmokum; "Ire Moldavenese" by Klezmokum; "Ozi Vezimrat Ya" by Paradox Trio with Matt Darriau on sax; "Taitsch" by Pharaoh's Daughter; "West African Niggun" by Pharaoh's Daughter; "Pesakh Nign" by Psychedelicatessen; "Lubo Nign" by Psychedelicatessen; "Adir hu / Rock of Ages Medley" by Gary Lucas. The jazz listener will discover some interesting and complex work going on in these selections, which at times, defies definition because of the uniqueness of each work! "Lubo Nign" is such an example as is "El Encalador." "Aimless Path" is a haunting little piece that comes back to the listener with its harmonic inventiveness. An interesting and well-crafted collection.
