Michael Mason's abilities and talents are fully realized on this magnificent jazz symphonic approach, "Angels of Fire." Many excellent musicians contributed outstanding performances to the creation of this jazz CD. It is a jazz memorial dedicated to those who perished in the Our Lady of the Angels school fire at Chicago, Illinois on December 1, 1958.
All conceptions are by Michael Mason except "The Healing" by Geoff Lowe. Each selection is unique unto itself in motif, and the work consists of 13 selections. The listener will find enjoyment in the entire work, and some selections will become favorites. Without exception, I liked each one. For the jazz collector, this is a must. Excellent!
The booklet accompanying this CD is 22 pages long and contains the story of the fire, statements from some of the survivors, a long and enlightening jazz autobiographical sketch by Michael Mason, and a listing by selection which also details the names of the many musicians performing. Excellent reading!
